SculptraŽ is a sculpting agent that restores volume to correct the signs of facial fat loss. SculptraŽ is an enduring treatment currently approved by the FDA for restoration and/or correction of the signs of facial fat loss (known as lipoatrophy) in people with human immunodeficiency virus; it is the first FDA-approved product of its kind for this condition.
As we age all of us develop facial fat loss, or lipoatrophy. This loss of fat beneath the skin is noticeable to us because it can result in sunken cheeks, indentations, and hollow eyes.

SculptraŽ is a safe, biocompatible material that is injected below the surface of the skin in the area of fat loss. It provides a gradual and significant increase in skin thickness, improving the appearance of folds and sunken areas. No skin testing is required. It actually comes from milk and it has been used in safely inside the body for decades.
SculptraŽ has been safely used outside the United States since 1999 in over 150,000 patients under the trade names New-Fill and SculptraŽ. The procedure is virtually pain free.

When the word lipoatrophy is broken down, "lipo" means "fat," and "atrophy" means "the loss of." Facial lipoatrophy is the loss of fat beneath the skin, which can result in sunken cheeks, indentations, and hollow eyes giving the overall appearance of aging.
The results from SculptraŽ treatment are not immediate; SculptraŽ provides a gradual increase in skin thickness so you must allow several weeks and months for your tissues to rejuvenate. As your collagen re-grows you will slowly begin to see the signs of aging starting to reverse. And since this is not a filler, but your own tissue that is regenerating, the effects of SculptraŽ are enduring. In a clinical study, effects lasted for up to 2 years minimum after just the first treatment session in most patients.

Most patients need 2-4 treatments for great results. Age 30-40 years usually need two treatments. Age 40-60 years usually need 3 treatments. Age 60 and above patients usually need 4 treatments. But since everyone reacts differently you need to re-evaluate your results after each treatment. Results may vary.
For most patients doing a full course for aging correction results should last a minimum of 2-3 years. Of course, "time marches on" and you are always continuing to lose your collagen/volume, but some patients may average 5 years or more before they decide to "touch-up" their appearance.
