Dr. Robert Hashemiyoon Bio

Robert Hashemiyoon, M.D.

Dr. Robert Hashemiyoon received his AB degree from the University of Pennsylvania, his medical degree from the George Washington University School of Medicine, and his clinical training in Internal Medicine at the Washington Hospital Center.  He has been practicing in the specialty of Phlebology since 1991.  This is the same year he first became a member of the American College of Phlebology (ACP), the premier specialty society for Venous Medicine in the United States. He is also a member of the American Medical Association (AMA) and the American Society of Cosmetic Physicians.

Dr. Hashemiyoon has been active in the field of venous disease for over 15 years.  He is internationally recognized for his expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of venous disorders.  He has been invited to make scientific presentations and been asked to conduct fellowships teaching medical management of venous disease for both national and international physicians.  Dr. Hashemiyoon has lectured in the United States and abroad on a wide variety of topics related to Phlebology.  He has served on the education committee of the ACP.

He has written collaborative works with other specialists in the field of Phlebology and has been published in the Journal of Dermatologic Surgery and Oncology.  He is a primary contributor, along with several other internationally recognized specialists, to the newest textbook of Phlebology, Vein Diagnosis and Treatment, A Comprehensive Approach, published 11/2000 by McGraw-Hill Medical Publishing Division.  He has been featured in Frederick Magazine, in Maryland World Class Doctors: "Local Physicians Making a Difference.”  He was published in The Washington Times newspaper in Washington, D.C..  Recently (2002), he was featured on  CBS NEWS in Los Angeles for his expertise in vein medicine (Phlebology).

Additionally, Dr. Hashemiyoon has always been on the cutting edge of frontier medicine.  He became a member of the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine in 1994.  He has promoted the concept of Andropause or male menopause since 1995, when the term was almost unknown.  He has been treating patients with hormone replacement therapy, including testosterone and growth hormone, according to strict protocols which he developed in 1995.  These same protocols are in use by over 13 urology centers across the country.

Dr. Hashemiyoon was one of the first physicians to use finasteride at lower doses for the treatment of androgenetic alopecia in 1995.  His regimen of 1mg. finasteride orally and 5% minoxidil topically is now the gold standard as the only proven and FDA approved treatments for the non-surgical treatment of hair loss in men.  Currently, he is investigating dutasteride instead of finasteride for the treatment of male pattern baldness.

Between 1991 and 1993 he was medical director of The National Health and Nutrition Institute in Washington, D.C.  He treated hundreds of patients with moderate to severe weight problems using prescription strength medication and high protein meal replacement therapy.

He has been active in the development of new anti-viral agents which have shown remarkable results with the treatment of DNA viruses, especially papilloma virus; Dr. Hashemiyoon was one of the first investigators of cidofovir during the human clinical trials in Leuven, Belgium.  Cidofovir was later FDA approved in July 1996 in the United States.  His initial studies at GWU Hospital on laryngeal papillomas laid the groundwork for further development nationwide and were published in the ENT Journal.  The Voice Treatment Center at George Washington University Medical Center continues with their groundbreaking voice treatment with cidofovir as the nexus of their laryngeal papilloma treatment.

Dr. Robert Hashemiyoon is now medical director of the American Vein and Aesthetics Institute.  The American Vein and Aethetics Institue has several offices that are leading specialty centers providing state-of-the-art care for varicose and spider veins.  The practices provide the most advanced treatment available for venous disorders including micro-injection transcatheter therapy, laser like treatment with Photoderm VL®, Altus Cool Glide® Laser, ambulatory phlebectomy, and Color Flow Duplex Mapping and sclerotherapy, and the newest technology from Dr. Robert Min from Cornell University called Endovenous Laser Treatment (EVLTTM); there are only a handful of centers worldwide that provide this innovative procedure for the treatment of varicose veins.  Dr. Hashemiyoon was the official instructor for Diomed Laser in the Los Angeles area for several years; he trained doctors from the Mid-West to the West coast on the EVLT procedure.

Pioneering the way towards non-surgical solutions to many cosmetic needs, Dr. Hashemiyoon has advanced non-surgical procedures to a new level.  The Liquid Face-Lift (designed to take 5-10 years off) and the non-surgical nose job are two of his innovative procedures that allow patients to now achieve near surgical results without surgery.  The new SmartLipo procedure is a great way to lose unwanted fat from difficult areas without surgery and also tighten the skin without the need for an operation.

The American Vein and Aesthetics Institute has five offices located in Los Angeles and San Fernando Valley.
